Canoeist rescued from River Severn in Shrewsbury

A man was today rescued from the River Severn in Shrewsbury after falling out of a canoe.

Fire, police and ambulance services went to the scene at Pig Trough, Coton Hill, at 1.53pm.

Three fire appliances from Shrewsbury and Baschurch went to the scene and and crews used a short extension ladder and small gear to get the man to the river side.

Sophie Flynn, a spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We were called to a report of a man in need of help in the River Severn around 2pm, officers attended and the man was successfully rescued from the river by 2.20pm."
