The Red Lion in Myddle, near Wem, has been welcoming customers once again after undergoing a major refurbishment.

Myddle-based Shingler Homes Ltd, which bought the site for £430,000 in June last year at auction, has overhauled the bar area and created a new kitchen, restaurant area and beer garden.

Landlord Lee McCluskey, 39, said: "We are over the moon with how everything has gone.

"I think a lot of people in the local community are pleased their pub has reopened to such a high standard.

"We have had people in from the other side of Bridgnorth, Shrewsbury, Ellesmere and surrounding villages.

"Original oak beams have been stripped back to their original state. We have also got part of the original floor.

"I think some people were concerned that we would be taking away some of the character of the pub during the refurb, but we have actually added more character to it.

"I used to have places in Shrewsbury and did some consultancy work for Shingler Homes to help them to set up."

Jeremy Shingler, managing director of Shingler Homes Ltd, said: "We have been open for a few weeks now and it's been going really well.

"We have had a good period where we have had a lot of people in to see what we have done and the feedback has been really positive."

The pub closed in January 2012 due to dwindling trade and personal circumstances of the former owners.

Residents in the village have welcomed the news that the pub has reopened.
