Paralympian Mickey Bushell made a freeman of Telford borough

Paralympian gold medallist Mickey Bushell received a standing ovation as he was officially voted in as the eighth honorary freeman of the borough in Telford.

Telford & Wrekin councillors voted unanimously to bestow the honour on the 24-year-old at a meeting held at Telford College of Arts and Technology last night.

Bushell won gold in the 100m sprint at the London 2012 Paralympics.

Telford & Wrekin Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: "We are all immensely proud of the success that Mickey has achieved in the face of adversity."

Bushell said he was "delighted" to receive the award.
