Police say they are now going to step up patrols and prosecute drivers who illegally use Station Bridge in Llanymynech.

PC Pete Dale, of Oswestry Police, said he has received complaints from worried residents.

He said: "In September 2013 a 7.5tonnes weight restriction order was placed on Station Bridge at Llanymynech. This was due to a weak bridge structure.

"Residents and the parish council have complained that numerous vehicles are flouting this order and regularly exceeding the weight limit.

"There are no exemptions to this order bar emergency vehicles actually attending an emergency. Therefore any vehicle, whether an agricultural vehicle, horse box, commercial or otherwise exceeding the plated weight limit of 7.5 tonnes will be committing an offence.

"Police will be enforcing this order and prosecutions will follow if drivers do not take a suitable alternative route.

"It would be very much appreciated if you could include the above information and warning in your paper."
