Letter: Mistake in Benn case

There have been few occasions when Her Majesty put a foot wrong, for once she should have ignored advisers and John Bercow who proposed the late Tony Benn lie in state in The Chapel of St Mary Undercroft in the Palace of Westminster.

Brilliant orator maybe, he contributed little of significance to British government and is mainly remembered for seeking to remove the head of Her Majesty from stamps when he was the Postmaster General in Harold Wilson's government.

A dangerous precedent has been set, but no doubt Tony Blair relishes the prospect of being afforded this last accolade in due course, he was always good at 'working a crowd'.
