Mobile phone helped in mountain rescue
Tuesday 25th October 2011, 8:50AM BST.
A mobile phone and thermal imaging equipment helped save a hill walker taken ill in stormy weather on a mountain near Oswestry.
When the 78-year-old man started to suffer breathing problems and it was feared he could be having a heart attack, his daughter used her mobile phone to raise the alarm.
Rescuers then used thermal imaging equipment to pinpoint the father and daughter’s position on Moel Sych.
Search and rescue teams, including a dog team from Scotland, and RAF helicopters, were scrambled to the area near Llanrhaeadr Waterfall at about 5pm on Sunday.
