Powys councillors vote to close one school but save another
Tuesday 4th October 2011, 12:55PM BST.
Councillors have agreed to start formal consultation to close a primary school on the Shropshire/Powys border, but have given another one a dramatic reprieve.
Members of Powys County Council’s Cabinet today unanimously voted to close Llangedwyn Primary School and to save Llanfechain Primary School.
Both schools were placed under threat earlier this year after the council said they had fewer than 30 pupils.
Scores of pupils from Llanfechain Primary School waved banners and carried lifesize drawings of future pupils as part of a protest outside County Hall in Llandrindod Wells before today’s meeting.
Llangedwyn Primary School could now be closed by September 2012 but councillors have agreed that no further action be taken to close Llanfechain Primary School.

If you want to have a good shot at saving your school I’d advise looking at the ‘parents against school closure’ website. Good luck in this very difficult time to all affected.
