Letter: Is solar power properly priced?

Letter: I hate being treated as stupid.

The council plans to spend £5 million of our money to buy solar panels.

The return could be up to £700,000 a year.

The reason the return is so good is that the council will be paid up to 41p per unit of electricity produced.

This payment for green energy production is heavily subsidised.

Now here is the dodgy bit. Guess who is paying for this top-up funding?

Of course, it’s the Government. Wrong: It comes from the electricity supply industry.

And where do they get their money from? From our electricity bills. So the council will spend money it says it hasn’t got putting up our electricity bills.

Oh by the way, did you know the very latest silicon photovoltaic solar panels are, on a bright day, only 19.1 per cent efficient.

We will know when the technology is right when we see countries further south using them on every building and not just as panels for heating hot water.
