Shrewsbury’s Kingsland Bridge toll will double to 20p

The toll on Shrewsbury’s historic Kingsland Bridge, which has remained unchanged for more than 25 years, will double from next week to help meet maintenance costs, bosses said today.

The Shrewsbury Kingsland Bridge Company has been given permission by the Secretary of State for Transport to increase the toll for motorists from 10p to 20p. The rise will come into effect on Monday.

The 1p no-obligatory charge for pedestrians and cycles will not change.

Chairman David Crawford-Clarke today said: “Basically we are not going to make ends meet if we don’t increase the charge. We are not getting enough money to maintain our running costs.

“The number of motorists using the bridge has dropped dramatically in the last few years due to businesses moving to out-of-town business parks.”

        “what expenses are there?”

ITS A BRIDGE! I would imagine there are heaps of expenses…Besides, it has been 10p for TWENTY FIVE YEARS. Inflation would suggest the price should be much higher. Nothing to see here…move along people…

No worries, I hardly ever pay to use the bridge anyway, if the driver is on his toes you can get 3 cars under the barrier.

I havn’t paid the toll in months coming from town to kingsland.

A grossly outdated toll collecting system that results in motorists and pedestrians rarely paying.
How about the parking charges within the boundaries of Kingsland bridge? Are they increasing?
