2012 date for Welshpool kidney dialysis unit

A permanent kidney dialysis unit will be ready to open in Welshpool in 2012, it was revealed today.
On Friday, the Welsh Assembly announced a temporary unit would open at the town’s Victoria War Memorial Hospital until a permanent one could be put in place.
Now Glyn Davies, Montgomeryshire MP, said the permanent unit would be ready for use by 2012.
The patron of Kidney Foundation Wales said he was delighted by Friday’s announcement by Edwina Hart, that she has released funding which will allow a temporary demountable Kidney Dialysis Unit to be constructed on the site of Welshpool Hospital.
He said: “For many years, Montgomeryshire sufferers from kidney disease have been anticipating the provision of a dialysis unit on the site of Welshpool’s Memorial Hospital.
“Local campaigners have faced delays, disappointments and deep frustration by the failure of the Welsh Assembly Government to deliver over a long period.
“This is wonderful news for those of us who have been campaigning for a dialysis unit in Montgomeryshire for the last several years.”
