My Chemical Romance

LG Arena

words and pictures by James Watkins

The West Midlands succombed to the Power-punk American rock of My Chemical Romance as the LG Arena enjoyed a greatest hits set that impressed an 8,000-strong crowd.

Opening with the classic curtain drop intro to unveil vocalist Gerard Way and his band mates Frank Lero, Ray Truro and Mikey Way, MCR roared into Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na) and Give ‘Em Hell Kid to rock the make-up-wearing revellers and raise the scream levels to fever pitch.

Thrashing through Hang ‘Em High and Our Lady Of Sorrow, the fast pace continued through a power-riffed Famous Last Words before being slowed down with harmonies of The Ghost Of Me.

While not offering a particularly visually-appealing show, the consistent swagger of Gerard Way bouncing around the stage kept the predominantly young crowd happy, particularly with the tempting chordular treat of there biggest chart hit, Welcome To The Black Parade.

Ending the night with Cancer and the epic Vampires Will Never Hurt You, MCR left the stage to audacious screams from their army of followers.

    Nicely done short review.
Just a heads up you’ve got spelling mistakes for the last names of Frank and Ray. It should be “Frank Iero, Ray Toro” not “Frank Lero, Ray Truro”.

As a journalist you should know to check your grammar next time. You used the wrong form of “they’re” “their” “there”.

Can we all just take a moment to die laughing over “Frank Lero” and “Ray Truro”?

It’s Frank Iero and Ray Toro… I almost wish his last name was Truro, though, that’s pretty intense.

Before submitting an article, double check you’ve got the names of the band members and their songs correct or else you risk XXXXXX off fans or just looking plain stupid.

“there biggest chart hit.” Maybe next time a grammar check is the way to go, honey?

(Also, it’s “The Ghost of You,” not “The Ghost Of Me.”)

(Also, I would argue that it was the music that kept fans happy, not the visual show, appealing or not.)

    James, right?
It’s obvious you haven’t done any research or know nothing about this band.

1-It’s Frank Iero and Ray Toro.
2-The only one wearing make-up was Gerard.
3-The song was not about you, therefore it’s called “The Ghost Of You”
4-What’s not visually appealing about Gerard’s face when he sings, Ray’s fro moshing as he goes, Mikey’s concentration when he plays, or Frank’s antics on stage?

    Do some research, kid.

I’d be quite interested to know what an “audacious scream” sounds like… I’m guessing that wasn’t the word you were thinking of.
Surely this isn’t a Shropshire Star staff member who wrote this article?!

I think you’re all being a tad harsh on whoever wrote this – granted there’s a spelling mistake or two which isn’t ideal, but seriously people, it’s not slagging the band off and the pics look great! Give the Star a break…I applaud any coverage of the boys that is positive! I love Gerard and the boys and I thought the show was good, but not anywhere near their best. Last years gig at the apollo was amazing, this just felt felt a little half-hearted, but i still love you guys!!!

    Seriously?

Worst. Review. Ever. Firstly, do some research and get the names right. Secondly, this is a very stereotypical review. I doubt the reviewer cares much about MCR so therefore gave them a very neutral/substandard review. Seen ones like this before.
