Soap star and Dancing on Ice finalist Roxanne Pallett will head up the cast for a show at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn this year, the venue revealed today.

The actress, best known for playing Jo Stiles in Emmerdale, will take to the stage for Rock Around the Clock in late August.

The show will feature a cast of singers, dancers and musicians performing rock and roll classics and 1950s favourites including Great Balls of Fire, Good Golly Miss Molly and Johnny B Goode.

Theatre managers today said they were delighted Roxanne would lead the cast for the show.

Marketing manager Jackson Cumming, said: "Roxanne is a fantastic performer and an exciting addition to the cast. Rock Around The Clock is sure to bring a real party atmosphere to Theatre Severn."

Roxanne, 27, arrived in Emmerdale in 2005 as Jo Stiles, a character who became part of the Sugden family.

She showcased her vocal talent on ITV's Soapstar Superstar and was a winner of Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes, singing as Gloria Estefan.

Following her appearance on ITV1's Dancing on Ice, she accompanied Torvill and Dean on their 25th anniversary Bolero Tour.

Rock Around The Clock will run from August 23 to 28. Tickets can be booked through the box office at Theatre Severn by calling (01743) 281281, in person at the Old Market Hall in The Square, or online at www.theatresevern.co.uk

Great, yet another dull show put on at the theatre Severn. When are they going to put something on for those in the 16 - 30 age group? Sorry but a soap star turned singer just doesn't inspire me to buy a ticket.

But will she still be famous by August? Most of these 'celebrities' could walk through their own living rooms without being recognised.

Wow, really putting that expensive theatre to great use aren't they?
