Shropshire Star

I loved my two-year electric car adventure - but how suited is Shropshire to an EV lifestyle?

I had my electric company car for almost two years of trials, tribulations and even tears as I struggled to get used to a car without a clutch or gear stick.

But I grew to love the way it drove, particularly its instant response.

However one problem I did find was the simple lack of infrastructure, particularly in rural areas.

Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin could see the number of electric vehicles (EVs) on the roads rise from 6,332 today to 121,044 by the end of 2030. Researchers say that will mean a further 3,583 public charging points are needed - a 1,481 per cent increase from the 242 chargers existing across the region today.

And I completely understand why.
