Oswestry Town Council has invited the Shropshire Star to its meeting Wednesday to outline its push to see vital road improvements on the route, which includes the Oswestry bypass.

Councillors will debate whether to support the campaign, which includes a petition calling on roads minister, John Hayes to include the A5 within the future Road Investment Strategy.

They will also look at whether they want to take other measures such as writing to the minister.

One of the major bottlenecks on the A5 through Shropshire is on the Shrewsbury bypass where the trunk road is joined by the A483.

Earlier this week businessman and football club owner, Mike Harris, revealed that he often chose to drive through Oswestry town centre in preference to the bypass because it was quicker.
