TNS controlled large parts of their contest against third-placed Bala but were unable to make their possession and chances pay as the visitors defended well to earn a creditable point.

The Oswestry-based Saints had been out of action since mid-December as the Welsh top flight paused due to Covid-19. They had won eight games from eight at Park Hall before Saturday evening’s stalemate, which cuts their lead at the top to Connah’s Quay to just a point.

“We passed it (well), but we just needed to be braver and take our chances, they just need to be a bit more positive in one-v-one situations,” Ruscoe said.

“It’s disappointing and frustrating, these are the words to describe it, you want to win all your home games, before now we had a 100 per cent record at home and hadn’t dropped points, tonight we dropped two.”

TNS and Connah’s Quay have both won 14 and lost just once so far this term, though Ruscoe’s Saints have played one game more than their rivals and the current champions.

Ruscoe added on his team’s return: “I thought we were very good in both halves, I’d say we probably had five or six good chances to score a goal.

“We just weren’t quite there tonight, weren’t clinical enough, although we dominated possession and never really looked in trouble, I thought we were defensively sound, got first and second balls, got blocks and looked fitter than them.”

“But credit to them, they made it a good game and had the odd chance and stuck to it and hung in.

“I’m disappointed with a point, with our possession and dominating them and the chances, we take the point and move on with the clean sheet.”
