Matt Henry kept his cool in the final over to stun Hampshire and hand Kent a sensational one-run victory in the Royal London One-Day Cup at the Ageas Bowl.

New Zealand fast bowler Henry only conceded two runs in the final over to deny Hampshire, who needed just four off the final set of six.

Joe Weatherley had put Hampshire within a single of keeping up their unbeaten record in the competition by scoring his first professional century.

The batsman struck three figures in a 133-run stand with fellow academy graduate Brad Taylor, who made a half-century.

All-rounder Taylor had also earlier taken two for 35, with Kent setting 297 thanks to Daniel Bell-Drummond’s 82.

At Chelmsford, Dean Elgar and Jason Roy put on an exhibition of power hitting to take Surrey to a six-wicket victory against Essex.

The pair put on 127 runs for the second wicket as Surrey chased down their target of 295 with consummate ease.

Elgar added a 95-ball 87 to previous scores of 91 and 50, while Roy, playing his second innings since returning from Indian Premier League duty with Delhi Daredevils, was even more ferocious in making 86 from 64 balls after Essex had stuttered to a below-par 294 for nine.

Somerset returned to winning ways thanks to outstanding all-round performances from Peter Trego, Lewis Gregory and Roelof van der Merwe.

After back-to-back defeats against Sussex and Essex, Somerset proved too strong for a Middlesex side for whom this was a second defeat of the 50-over season.

Trego weighed in with 65 runs and a wicket whilst Gregory helped himself to an equally valuable half-century and a brace of wickets, as Somerset won by 53 runs.

Van der Merwe finished with a wicket too having struck 52 in a match-winning 91-run partnership with Gregory.

Gloucestershire were frustrated by the weather for the second time in three days as their home tie against Sussex was abandoned due to a waterlogged outfield.

In the north group, Moeen Ali returned to county cricket with Worcestershire Rapids but was upstaged by centurion Daryl Mitchell as his side won a last-ball thriller against Lancashire by three wickets.

England all-rounder Ali, who has spent the last six weeks playing in the IPL, had a modest return of one wicket for 49 runs from nine overs as Lancashire totalled 254 for nine from 48 overs.

Mitchell rescued the Rapids from 93 for six in pursuit of a 255 target in 48 overs.

He received sterling support from Ed Barnard in a stand of 58 and then skipper Joe Leach in an unbroken partnership of 104 in 17 overs.

Meanwhile, a fine unbeaten century from Adam Lyth saw Yorkshire through to a supremely comfortable nine-wicket victory over Leicestershire and Warwickshire’s bowlers turned in an impressive display to dismiss Nottinghamshire for 187 in a 108-run Royal London One-Day Cup victory at Trent Bridge.

In the day’s other game, Durham secured a five-run victory over Northamptonshire at the County Ground.

Durham made 256 for seven, led by Tom Latham’s 86 off 93 balls.

Half-centuries from Alex Wakely and Adam Rossington kept the hosts in contention but Durham held on.
