What the papers say

Chelsea could bid for Toby Alderweireld in the summer transfer window, according to the Sun. The paper says Tottenham are braced for an approach by their rivals after the Belgium centre-back failed to agree a new deal at Spurs.

But Tottenham have reportedly already identified a potential replacement for Alderweireld, in the form of Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt. The Sun says the side are preparing a £45million bid for the Dutch 18-year-old.

West Brom are likely to have a fight on their hands to keep Craig Dawson, the Mirror reports. Burnley, Wolves and West Ham are all said to be keeping a close eye on the 27-year-old defender.

Chelsea starlet Mason Mount has attracted the attention of a string of clubs across Europe, including Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon and Werder Bremen, it is reported. The Sun adds that the midfielder’s impressive first season in senior football – a loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem – has left Chelsea considering fast-tracking Mount into their first-team plans next season, and that the team have no intention of selling him.
