Celtic suffered another night of European anguish against Paris St Germain in a 7-1 thrashing in the Parc des Princes.

Former PSG youth player Moussa Dembele fired Celtic into a stunning first-minute lead but the home side reacted to the loss of their first goal in the Champions League with a Neymar double and goals from Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe before the break.

The big-spending French club, who had won 5-0 at Parkhead on match day one, did not let up in the second half with goals from Marco Verratti, Cavani and Dani Alves compounding the Hoops’ misery.

What they said

On PSG’s final group game against Bayern Munich, he added: “It will be a good test against a team capable of winning the Champions League.”

Star man – Neymar

There is little new to say about Neymar. Once again he showed his class with goals and assists and at times played on a different level from anyone on the pitch. A simply fantastic player although he has some terrific team-mates.

Moment of the match

Dembele’s first-minute goal stunned everyone in the stadium. The Celtic fans could hardly believe what they were watching and the PSG players wobbled until Neymar levelled and restored football’s new order.

Boss Brendan Rodgers had described PSG as the “best of the best” and would have gladly taken a point before the game. However, he was given hope by Dembele’s early goal but then watched a calamity unfold.

Paris St Germain coach Unai Emery was looking for his side to clinch top spot before their final Group B fixture against Bayern Munich. The loss of the early goal would have shocked him and all the PSG fans but they eventually got into their rhythm which made it a long night for the Scottish champions.
