Is this the unluckiest shot of the year?

Things didn’t go according to plan for Ian Poulter in Antalya

Ian Poulter certainly thinks he’s in line to win the unluckiest shot of the year award after an unfortunate break on Friday.

The 41-year-old was two shots off the pace after an opening round of 66 in the second round of the Turkish Airlines Open when Lady Luck frowned on him.

The Englishman found the fairway from the tee on the par-four fifth but came a cropper when his next shot clattered into the flag.

To make matters worse, Poulter could then do nothing but watch as his ball rolled across the green and into the water, leaving him to take a penalty drop on the way to a bogey.

At least he had a sense of humour about the incident:

Poulter finished his second round in a 10-way tie for 13th place on five under par after a second round of 71, nine shots behind leader Nicolas Colsaerts.
