Richarlison struck a late winner as Watford’s 2-1 victory gave them a first league success at Swansea since 1983.

But Andre Gray and the Brazilian Richarlison were the Hornets’ heroes this time after substitute Tammy Abraham appeared to have given Swansea a share of the spoils.

Abraham finished from close range after 56 minutes to cancel out Gray’s first Watford goal, but Richarlison brushed aside Alfie Mawson’s timid challenge in the final minute to finish off the underside of the crossbar.

Star man – Kiko Femenia

There were many outstanding performances by Watford players, from Abdoulaye Doucoure’s athleticism in midfield to the strong defending of Adrian Mariappa and Christian Kabasele. Andre Carrillo’s right-flank forays also presented danger in the first half, but the overall display of Spanish right-back Kiko Femenia was top class. The Spanish defender shut out Swansea’s attacking movements down his flanks and was always willing to link up in attack.

Moment of the match

Richarlison showed incredible composure for such a young man to win the game for Watford in the 90th minute. The 20-year-old Brazilian had to rely on a weak challenge from Alfie Mawson to race through on goal. But when he got there, Richarlison was not flustered and he finished in style with his shot crossing the line off the underside of the crossbar.

The cries of ‘Leon, Leon’ are always a sure-fire sign that things are not going well at Swansea. Leon Britton might have turned 35 last week, but the Swansea club captain is still an indispensable figure in the eyes of most supporters. Britton was brought back in the final weeks of last season and played a critical role as Paul Clement’s Swansea avoided the drop. Not even on the bench against Watford, it might not be too long before the influence of the diminutive midfielder is felt again.
