Team Sky’s Luke Rowe faces a lengthy absence after suffering a broken leg while white water rafting on his brother’s stag do.

His team announced Rowe had fractured his tibia and fibula in the incident and is now recovering at home in Cardiff following surgery.

Rowe’s brother Matt is marrying Dani King, the London 2012 team pursuit gold medallist.

Rowe said on teamsky.com: “On the first morning we went whitewater rafting. I jumped down into the water but landed in a shallow section on my right leg.

“It’s been a big shock and I know I’ve got a long period of recovery ahead.”

Rowe was Team Sky’s road captain at this year’s Tour de France and helped Chris Froome land his fourth title.
