Everton Ladies defender Gabby George has become the club’s first full-time female professional after signing a two-year contract.

The Toffees have operated as a part-time club since their origins as Hoylake FC in 1983, assuming the Everton name in 1995, but with them now taking the vacant spot in Women’s Super League 1 following Notts County’s liquidation, the transition is being made to a full-time organisation.

“It’s a great feeling to go full-time. This is a big step for us and hopefully the team can develop and get stronger on and off the pitch,” the 20-year-old George told evertonfc.com.

“I signed for Everton four years ago and we’ve seen other teams go full-time during that time. It was something I wanted to do personally and now that I’ve got the opportunity to do it I’m very excited.”
