Simon Evitts warning for derby-day fixture

Shrewsbury coach Simon Evitts will have his troops fired up for derby day as they chase a perfect end to the year.

The Midlands 3 West (North) table-toppers head for Cleobury Mortimer tomorrow for their final game of 2018 aiming to make it 11 wins from 11 in the league.

With Shrewsbury setting a blistering pace at the top of the table, tomorrow’s clash against a side down in ninth spot looks like an away banker, but Evitts will ensure his men won’t take the game lightly.

“We’re taking nothing for granted against Cleobury Mortimer,” said Evitts.

“They’ve not been beaten heavily this season.

“We’ll have to be on our game. There will be no arrogance, they’ve come up from the league below and will be a tight club, playing as a group of mates.

“We can’t take it for granted, it’s a big game for them.”

Shrewsbury were inactive last weekend after scheduled opponents Cannock conceded the clash and Evitts is hoping a week off will have given some of his walking wounded time to heal.

“Not playing last weekend was good because a couple of players got a rest and hopefully we’ll be going there with a full strength squad,” said Evitts.

“We want to finish off the first half of the season with an immaculate 11 from 11.

“To win the league would be great. It’s been a long time since the club have done that.

“There’s a good cushion to third (top two get promoted) and that takes the pressure off.”

Tom Cookson (head) is back in contention after featuring for the development team last weekend.
