Smallman hails desire of his team

The All Blacks have been battling it out at the top of the Midlands Premier with Scunthorpe and rivals Newport all season.

Scunthorpe currently lead by three points ahead of second-placed Bridgnorth, who edge Newport due to head-to-head records.

Smallman, whose men travel to third-bottom Birmingham outfit Bournville on Saturday for their final game before the festive break, insisted his side are exceeding all expectations for this seaon.

He said: "I want to emphasise that this is not arrogance. We had absolutely no idea where we would be this season so we're absolutely delighted.

"I could not be happier going into the second half of the season and I thoroughly believe we'll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

"We've got a squad of players that come in and out but if everyone continues to work hard and there's clarity and good execution we'll do really well.

"Our targets will change. There's a real drive because they know we can be in the top two or three at the end of the season

"And it's not from us on the sidelines, it's driven internally by the players. There's massive disappointment if we lose. Every game we've lost has been very winnable."
