Ryan Tyrer is about to get busy in the England Youth Championships after exacting his revenge through a first bout on his own turf.

Tryer was truly in the home corner when he engaged in an all-Shropshire battle in the first area phase last weekend,

The 16-year-old represents Donnington Boxing Club, who staged the first action of the opening tournament on the England Boxing calendar.

Seven bouts got the West Midlands hopefuls up and running at their base of the Donnington Sports & Social Club on Turreff Avenue.

A single age range - born in either 1999 or 2000 - houses the fighters, who are split into weight classes before being whittled down. Bouts take place over three, three minute rounds.

Tyrer has gone up a division to 60kg and first tackled Kieron Solon, from Len Woodhall's Community Club in Madeley, at Donnington.

Solon held a TKO victory over him from four years ago, but came off second best this time as Tyrer negated his power to roll over him unanimously on points.

Tyrer now advances to an area semi-final on Sunday afternoon, which will be held at the Newdigate Colliery Club in Bedworth.

His opponent will be decided tomorrow when Ellis Truman, from the Second City, and Kamrun Sullivan, of O'Dells, undertake a Birmingham box off for the right to face him the next day.

The other last four clash pits Leonard Hughes, from Exhall in Coventry, against Tom Cooke, of Queensberry in Stoke-on-Trent, on Sunday.

The winner goes forth to tackle who prevails out of Tyrer and his next test in the West Midlands final, to be held again at Newdigate the following Sunday.

Len Woodhall's are still represented by Husan Hussain, who is plotting his own path to the West Midlands decider through Newdigate.

Hussain first takes on Exhall's Ryan Dixon with Scott Melvin, from Eastside in Birmingham, and Burslem Golden Gloves' Ansin Khushal on the other side of the draw at 49kg.

Ludlow's Terry-Dean Smith has walked over the regional rounds, with no opponent for him to go toe-to-toe with at 81kg until the national stages.

Wellington Boxing Academy's Hamza Hussain bowed out at Donnington, outpointed unanimously by Walsall Wood's Hamzah Ahmed, a former team-mate, at 56kg.
