Tony Jones wants to make the next step

Telford's Tony Jones will be putting his best foot forward when he looks to close out his debut year with a fourth straight professional victory.

The banger from Brookside takes on Dan Carr tomorrow night after scoring a hat-trick of paid wins since turning over in May,

Undefeated Jones, who is managed by Kellie Maloney, takes his place on Tommy Owens' bill in the Holte Suite at Aston Villa Football Club.

And the 25-year-old is expecting to go the distance again with the tough 'Dirty Dan,' who has only ever been stopped once in 82 pro contests.

Last time out, Jones played it safe to outpoint the most experienced fighter in the country, going in against double centurion Kristian Laight.

Another tough journeyman awaits this evening, so the Shropshire slugger will be looking to take the pace out of the fight and show his skills.

He said: "There's no real game plan for this guy, but I've watched a couple of his fights so I know what he's good at and how I can counter that.

"I've been working on slowing my feet down, as I've come from the amateurs where it's a faster pace. I feel like that's all coming together now.

"He covers up well and has got decent footwork, he knows how to get out of trouble and steps out of range well when his opponent attacks.

"This should be a good test, in terms of movement and how to box smartly. I need to keep my hands up, work the jab and go with the flow.

"I just want to go in there and get the win to finish the year unbeaten. As long as I'm switched on, I'll come out victorious. That's the only aim."

Jones has two years left on his deal with Maloney and will sit down with coach Brian Robb in the New Year to discuss their targets for 2016.

The fighter is content with his progress, so far, and feels he'll be ready to be pushed into the title mix by the time next year draws to a close.

He said: "It's more about how we get to the next level when I have enough experience. Everybody starts from the same place in this sport.

"When I've got the journeyman out of the way, I can start taking fights where we're matching unbeaten records. Kellie talks a lot of sense."
