Telford Tigers general manager Tom Watkins was pleased with his side’s battling spirit in difficult conditions.

The Tigers thrashed the Whitley Bay Warriors 8-2 on Sunday night, with captain Jason Silverthorn netting a hat-trick, and further goals from Scott McKenzie, Ricky Plant, Jack Watkins, Joe Hazeldine and Andy McKinney.

But Watkins – whose side hammered Nottingham Lions 12-1 in their home opener on Saturday – recognised the hard work needed to lay the ground work for a second successive big win.

“It was a good performance in very wet conditions as the ice surface made it difficult to move the puck,” said Watkins.

“The guys had to battle hard all over the ice and I was very pleased with our team spirit because Whitley play with a lot of energy.

“There were some good individual displays, but overall it was a solid performance on the road.”
