Jonathan Weaver must wait to make Telford Tigers return

Defenceman Jonathan Weaver will have to wait to make his Telford Tigers return after being ruled out of their weekend double header.

Weaver is available again after completing his 11-match suspension for the on-ice incident that left Swindon’s Toms Rutkis with a serious jaw injury.

West Mercia Police this week concluded their investigation into the incident and concluded that no further action would be taken.

But head coach Tom Watkins revealed that Weaver is still suffering concussion symptoms from a separate incident in the match, which took place on September 24.

“Jonathan has been out on the ice and tried to practice but he’s still carrying some concussion symptoms,” said Watkins, who takes his table-topping side to Sheffield Steeldogs for a Moralee Conference clash tonight before they host Basingstoke Bison in the National Cup tomorrow.

“He’s completed his suspension and the police investigation is also now over, it’s just co-incidence that they have happened at the same time.

“To lose a player for 11 games is tough but fortunately we’ve been able to get through it OK.”

Former skipper Scott McKenize, who returned to the club this week, is in line to play, but netminder Sam Hewitt has left the club. Steeldogs are three points behind Tigers with two games in hand.
