Tigers opened their NIHL Moralee Conference campaign with a 4-3 home success over Sheffield Steeldogs after a penalty shootout.

Charlie Thompson put Sheffield ahead before Jack Watkins levelled in the 12th minute.

James Spurr netted to leave the visitors ahead at the end of the first period but captain Jason Silverthorn equalised for Tigers in the 25th minute.

Silverthorn’s second of the night put Tigers ahead but Ben Morgan scored to send the game into overtime.

With no further score, the shootout was tied at 1-1 when Dennis Bell saved from Adrian Palak.

And Joe Miller stepped up to send the Steeldogs netminder the wrong way and give Tigers the win.

Last night saw Tom Watkins’ Tigers enjoy a more comfortable evening, running out 5-2 winners away at Nottingham Lions.
