Battling Llanrhaeadr suffered penalty anguish after being downed 2-1 by Prestatyn Town at Treflan in the Huws Gray Alliance.

The Villagers did enough to gain some reward, but a spot-kick from Ben Maher five minutes from time – his third of the game – sentenced them to defeat.

It started well enough with Tommy Evans slotting home on 17 minutes after good work down the right by Iwan Matthews. But the Seasiders were back on terms courtesy of a 26th-minute penalty from Maher after Danny Davies had been brought down by Iain Edmunds.

Llan had their chances with Glenn Evans and Khyam Wyton both denied by good saves.

However, the game was settled five minutes from time when Edmunds was ruled to have tripped Jack Higgins. Maher’s spot-kick was saved by Jimmy Haynes, but another penalty was awarded after Tom Bailey was ruled to have handled in the goalmouth skirmish, which Maher duly dispatched.

Edmunds was then dismissed to cap a frustrating afternoon for the home side.

After their midweek win against Buckley Town, Guilsfield succumbed 2-0 at second placed Flint Town United who took the spoils with two first half goals from Mark Cadwallader and Dylan Lee Allshorn.
