In their first season back in the league, the villagers again showed their resolve to exceed expectations to move 12 points clear of the drop zone.

The hosts had the better chances throughout, with Tom Evans opening the scoring on 18 minutes after Iwan Matthews had pulled the ball back.

Ruthin were back on terms with a penalty from Llyr Morris right on half-time following a foul in the box by Iain Edmunds.

But Llan were back in front seven minutes into the second period with a penalty themselves from Kyham Wyton after Matthews had been brought down by keeper Ryan Goldston.

Player boss Marc Griffiths then made it three midway through the half before Ruthin pulled one back four minutes from time through sub Will Owen to set up a tight finish.

Guilsfield’s mixed form continued after being edged out 1-0 at home to struggling Denbigh Town who halted a three match losing run through Kristian Pierce’s header early in the second period.

The Guils remain 10th in the table, and are now just one place above Powys rivals Llanrhaeadr on goal difference.
