The event, held at Birmingham Town Hall, acknowledge the outstanding achievements made by gymnasts, volunteers, coaches, clubs and community members across the country.

Christine Still, who has been involved in gymnastics for 44 years and is a well-known TV commentator, was awarded the Frank Edmonds trophy presented to individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. She started her career as head coach at Loughton Gymnastics Club in 1972 and has since gone on to coach two Olympians, six British champions and four Commonwealth Games medallists.

Still has coached British national squads, was technical director for Scottish Gymnastics and is now head coach at Park Wrekin Gymnastics Club in Telford.

“I am lucky to have been able to spend a lifetime working in a sport I am passionate about and be part of a team that has seen Great Britain develop into a highly successful nation and force within world gymnastics,” she said.

“I am delighted to receive the Frank Edmonds Trophy and thank everybody who has been part of this great journey especially my husband, my family and all the coaches and gymnasts I work with now and over the years who have inspired me and fuelled a love of the sport that has never dimmed.”

The award is dedicated to the late Frank Edmonds OBE, a former gymnast who represented Great Britain at the 1948 Olympic Games and was president of the association from 1969-1989.

Jane Allen, chief executive of British Gymnastics, said: “I’m thrilled that Christine has been recognised for her hard work over the years. Without the contribution of members like Christine our sport wouldn’t be what it is today.

“It’s important we recognise the extraordinary contribution of these amazing members. They are great heroes of gymnastics and we are very grateful for the contribution they make.

“We want to congratulate all of the nominees, winners and recipients. Across the country, our members dedicate their time, skills and enthusiasm to ensure gymnastics thrives.

“It’s our privilege to host many of these people and show our great appreciation.”

Shrewsbury’s Arleen Smith, a former Park Wrekin coach, was nominated for the National Education Award, which was won by Gary Kirby for his work in the North West.
