Traveller’s Joy dug deep to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Shropshire Sunday Challenge Cup.

Travellers go the extra mile

In a tight encounter with Ellesmere, honours were even all the way through to full-time with the score standing at 3-3. The hosts grabbed the all-important winner in extra-time to go through to the next round in February.

In the Telford SuTravellers go

the extra milenday League Challenge Cup, defending champions Dawley suffered their first defeat of the season and, with it, surrendered the defence of last year’s treble success.

Their first round exit was at the hands of their greatest rivals Cottage Spring, who shook off indifferent league form to progress to the semi-finals with a 3-2 home win.

Joining them in the last four will be Wrekin View Wanderers, who took the spoils against visiting Royal British Legion, 4-1.

In the Premier Division, The Talbot got the better of visitors Riverside by the odd goal in five while Celtic Spartans put an end to their injury-ridden run of defeats with a 3-1 win at Wrockwardine Wood Juniors.

Hop & Vine maintained top spot in Division One with a steady 5-1 home win against Bell & Bails, but chasing pair Britannia and Kings Arms Market Drayton dented each other’s ambitions with a 1-1 draw.

St Georges closed the gap with the leading group with a convincing 7-1 away win at Black Horse but Dun Cow remain in the picture after an equally convincing 7-1 win at Barley Mow to sit fifth with a few games in hand.
