Trophy time for Loton winners

Hagley Car Club, organisers of speed events at Loton Park Hill Climb near Shrewsbury, held its 82nd annual awards presentation and luncheon at the Albrighton Hall Hotel.

Trophies were presented by club president Annie Goodyear and sponsor Nick West, together with Sir Michael and Lady Diana Leighton, of Loton Park.

Best time of day awards for fastest times at various meetings throughout the year included new British champion Trevor Willis, Jason Mourant, Chris Jones, Dave Banner, Will Hall, Alex Summers, Tina Hawkes, Steve Morgan and Graham Wynn.

Mickael Paris won the Allswage Loton Park Championship for club members, with class wins for Warren Reece and Glyn Davies, together with fastest time awards for Tim Higgins, Stuart Warsop and Mark Dalton.

In the special awards section trophies went to Graham Loakes and his team of Roy Holder and Sue Thompson for the restoration of the new marshals pavilion, named after late club president Max Trimble. Tina Hawkes for setting a new outright Ladies hill record and the Silver Salver Ladies Award went to Samantha Lester.

Jamie Mould was voted Marshal of the Year and Joseph Beckett was chosen as Young Marshal of the Year, with praise for the whole marshal team’s efforts over the season by chief marshal Adrian Mudge and competition secretary Bill Pardoe.

Club secretary Martyn Silcox said: “Once again it has been a brilliant season at Loton Park with very close competition creating a great spectacle and it is rewarding to see so many new faces receiving trophies which shows the growing popularity of this grassroots motorsport.”
