A season that had, at one stage, seen the side struggle with injuries and availability issues ended on a high as victory over Cound saw them crowned champions for the first time in over 90 years.

The final game against Cound saw captain Josie Macrae and Flo Malherbe on court for the opening clash. And they started well by taking the first set 6-4.

But Cound then hit back to take the second set 6-4 before winning the tie-break to take a 1-0 lead.

Any concerns that Oswestry may have been suffering from some final-day nerves were quickly expelled by Fiona Russell and Katie Land.

They hit form in the second game of the day, breezing to a 6-1 success in the first set before a 6-4 triumph squared the match up.

In the reverse rubbers, Macrae and Malherbe hit form to put Oswestry in front before Russell and Land took centre stage.

They clinched the match with a ruthless display that saw them lose just four games on their way to sealing a 3-1 victory and the title.
