Craig Simmons shines for Shropshire & Herefordshire

Shropshire & Herefordshire continued their impressive start to the season with a strong showing in the England Golf County Championship Midland qualifier.

S&H claimed a fifth-placed finish in the event which was staged at Robin Hood Golf Club in Solihull.

Ten teams of six players, playing 36 holes, took part in the competition which was won by Staffordshire, who now progress to the national final.

The S&H team comprised of Craig Simmons, Conor White, Trey Niven, Thomas Kerr, Kris Jones and Matthew Harrison.

Simmons (Shifnal Golf Club), who won the recent S&H Amateur Championships, was the county’s star performer with rounds of 69 and 70 seeing him finish five under par and tied second overall. Bridgnorth’s White ended one under in 10th.

The latest performance adds to the feelgood factor generated by S&H’s winning their opening two Midland League matches of the summer.
