A six-strong team make the trip to the Robin Hood club in Solihull for the Midlands qualifier of the English County Championships.

Ten counties bid for glory and a place in the national final in the event where all six scores count in both the morning and afternoon rounds.

And McCarthy, who will be the reserve tomorrow, is confident his team can put up a strong showing.

He said: “We have a lot of players in good form. Craig Simmons and Kris Jones have both won their County Amateur Championships and Trey Niven was in the top five at the Midland Closed.

“We have also won our first two Midland League games so the guys go there confident and in good spirits.

“It’s a tough format because one bad card can undo an awful lot of good work.

“But hopefully everyone can be consistent and get us in the middle of the pack and hopefully the top half.”
