Craig Simmons has been crowned the new Shropshire & Herefordshire Amateur Golf Champion.

Craig Simmons

The Shifnal Golf Club player carded two level par rounds of 73 in blustery conditions at Bridgnorth Golf Club yesterday.

Simmons pipped Trey Niven, of The Shropshire, by a single shot.

Niven had led after the first round with the only below par round of the day when he carded a two under score of 71. However, his afternoon round of 76 cost him the title.

Third place went to 2016 champion Tom Alford, at his home club, who carded rounds of 74 and 75 for a three over par total of 149.
