The Hawkstone Park ace closed with a three-under par 70 at the Morgado Golf Resort.

Chesters had looked on course for a top-ten finish, but Saturday’s round of 75 proved costly for the two-time European amateur champion.

England’s Matt Wallace took the first prize of £74,000 in Portugal and a tour exemption until 2018. Chesters collected a cheque for just almost £5,200.

Former Shropshire & Herefordshire player Aaron Rai was tied for 22nd place and collected a cheque worth £4,600 after an excellent final round of 67 propelled him up the leaderboard.
