The tricky winger was unexpectedly left out of the squad for the trip to Brighton at the weekend, with manager Nuno Espirito Santo confirming after the game he had picked up an injury at Manchester United and would likely miss the FA Cup clash with Crystal Palace on Friday.

Now, in an injury update from the club's medical team, they have confirmed Podence has a calf injury which 'will take a few weeks to resolve'.

Losing the 25-year-old will be a major blow to Nuno who has several other players on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, the club did deliver goods news on the injury front for midfielder Leander Dendoncker who is now back in training following a bruised bone on his knee.

He had treatment on December 16 after the game against Chelsea the day before, but has not featured since.

Defender Willy Bolly suffered a hamstring injury at the end of the same game and is expected to return to outdoor training this week, too.

Fernando Marcal has a groin knock and is not yet ready to return to training.

Long-term absentees Jonny Castro Otto and Raul Jimenez are making good progress from their injuries.

Following a serious knee injury Jonny is approaching five months since surgery and the club are hoping to introduce him back into team training soon.

Jimenez is now five weeks on from surgery following a fractured skull and is doing some early fitness work.
