Wolves boss Nuno wants managers to have their say on fixtures

Nuno believes the concerns of both managers and players deserve greater credence during what is a heavily congested campaign.

For the second season running Wolves have been handed one of the tightest festive turnarounds when they face Tottenham and Manchester United in the space of 48 hours.

But while declining to address that issue directly, Nuno did express sympathy with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who has criticised the existing format of spreading fixtures across the weekend.

He said: “We (managers) should be listened to more and it is not enough to just listen. We should be allowed to have a voice inside the decision-making. Managers and players should be listened to when they demand so much, especially from the players.

“We have to realise what we are asking from our players. If there is a chance to be heard, then fantastic.”

He continued: “We should try to make it as simply as possible. We can meet, as managers, share our opinions and come to conclusions and one of us goes to a meeting representing our voice and see if people address that. It is simple, the right to an opinion.”

Wolves host Spurs on December 27, before visiting United on December 29, with schedule giving the hosts – who play on Boxing Day – an additional 24 hours rest.

It is the same scenario Wolves faced a year ago before a festive trip to Liverpool and Nuno said: “Understanding the fixtures and the schedule is hard because we always think there could be another possibility.

“But honestly, I think the schedule is going to be demanding for every team. Sometimes you have more time, sometimes you have less time. The impact on every team is going to be tough.”
