Jimenez has been a revelation since joining from Benfica on loan, netting 15 times and providing a further seven assists in a stellar campaign.

Wolves have taken up their option to sign him on a permanent deal, handing the Mexican a bumper four-year contract to tie him to Molineux until 2023.

The signing will officially go through on July 1 and eclipses the previous transfer record of £18m from last summer when Adama Traore joined from Middlesbrough.

The 27-year-old now wants to 'make history' at Molineux.

“It’s a great honour for me to now be a permanent member of the team," he told Wolves. "I’m very happy for this permanent deal as I feel that being at Wolves suits me.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here, I enjoy playing in the pitch and, along with all my teammates, we try our best in all the matches to win.

“Since I’ve arrived here it’s all been so good. We’ve had some good moments, some bad moments; but the best ones have been so good and I’m very happy for that.

“It’s been very nice that the people inside the club, as well as the people outside, the supporters, are happy with me and that gives me extra motivation to continue doing my best on the pitch.

“The songs the fans have made for me are amazing – it’s the first time that has happened to me. I’m very happy when I score and I’m on the pitch and I can hear it. I feel very honoured and very happy for that.

“Now I want to keep scoring so they can keep singing songs about me.

“I want to make history here at the club. With my teammates, I want to put the club back into the top places in the Premier League. I think we all want that and have that ambition.

“For myself personally, I want to keep scoring for the rest of the time I am here, and that’s going to be my main goal.”

Wolves are now committed to spending £44m this summer, with Leander Dendoncker also moving permanent in a £12m from Anderlecht at the end of the season.
