Matt Doherty has hailed Wolves new boy Joao Moutinho as 'world class' – as he admitted he questioned himself after his Leicester off-day.

Doherty starred at Nuno Espirito Santo's team broke their Premier League duck with a 1-0 win at West Ham on Saturday.

It completed a welcome two-week turnaround for the Irishman who had scored an own goal and missed a big chance when Wolves lost 2-0 at Leicester a fortnight earlier.

The 26-year-old has since impressed against the Hammers and Manchester City.

And he said: "When stuff like that happens against Leicester you sort of question what's going on.

"But I got my head down in training, worked hard and just believed I'm able to do it.

"I didn't let it affect me and I've come back and played well these last two games."

The hard-working wing back, speaking after the London Stadium win, said his running stats would have been pretty high.

"I don't know, I'm standing here now, my lips are getting dry and I feel like I'm about to fall over!" he joked. "They'll be high probably."

Another man to impress has been Portugal international Moutinho.

Doherty said the unflappable midfielder has helped Wolves make a positive start to the campaign.

"You can see it in games with Moutinho, he never panics on the ball and makes the right decision pretty much every time," Doherty added.

"He's a world class player, he's done it at the top level for his whole career and he's doing it for us as well.

"Overall we've done well – we won in the cup and we'd lost a game at Leicester we should have won.

"We've started the season quite well, two draws, a win and that was really important going into the break.

"Training will be completely different than if we had lost it and it gives us a lot of momentum going into Burnley."
