Benik Afobe: I've got unfinished Wolves business

The 24-year-old completed a dramatic homecoming just minutes before last night's transfer deadline, re-joining Wolves on loan for the rest of the season.

The Bournemouth striker enjoyed a stellar year in Wolves colours between January 2015 and January 2016, scoring 23 goals before moving to the Premier League side for £10million.

After his shock return to Wolves, Afobe told the club's official website he was 'home'.

"It's unbelievable," he said. "Two years ago I left, everyone knows that, it's been good playing at Bournemouth in the Premier League but I'm glad to be home, this feels like home for me.

"It was probably the best year of football I had. I just thank Wolves for giving me the opportunity to come back and hopefully I can score goals from now until the end of the season.

"I have unfinished business here. I've been keeping tabs on the club and the team for the whole season. I obviously still have friends here, they've been doing great.

"It's a family club so I'm just happy to be part of it again. Hopefully I can help the boys get over the line for promotion and win the league.

"When I first came we finished seventh and missed out on the play-offs by goal difference so that was very upsetting for me.

The season after we were nowhere near it. That was tough as well. I obviously left, for a number of reasons, but as I've said I've been keeping tabs on the club this season and they've been doing great.

"I've always wished nothing but the best for Wolves whether I was here or not here. I'm just hoping we can do it now and have a strong second half of the season."

Afobe only left two years ago but the club has rapidly changed since then, with new owners in Fosun, a third new head coach in Nuno and of course a host of new players.

However plenty of Afobe's team mates are still at Molineux including Danny Batth, Conor Coady and his best friend Matt Doherty.

Afobe added: "It always makes it easier that you've got friends here, you know the club, you know how it's run. There's a new manager and a new owner which is good because they're very ambitious and want to be playing at the highest level.

"That's the aim now. I'm best mates with Matt Doherty and he said to me at the beginning of the season that they've got a great chance. He's been saying all along they're going to win the league and the boys have been great here.

"Hopefully I can help them push over the line with some goals and be part of this great football club.

"I haven't been to Molineux yet but I can't wait until Saturday and the fans obviously took to me when I was here – hopefully I can do my best to work hard for them and the club and it can be a great time for me here again.

"I'm confident, I believe in myself and I just have all the people at Wolves to thank for giving me this opportunity again. Hopefully I can repay them and the fans with some goals.

"I'd like to say thank you for all the messages they've been sending to me in the last couple of weeks asking for me to come back.

"Obviously I can't say too much when nothing's concrete but I've always wanted to come back.

"Hopefully I can score a few goals and they'll be singing my name again at Molineux."
