Goals from Diogo Jota and Romain Saiss were sandwiched by an early Millwall opener and a 72nd-minute equaliser during a full-blooded encounter at the Den.

Wolves extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches and Nuno was pleased with how his players stood up to the challenge.

"It was a tough game, an entertaining and well disputed game, a lot of fighting for the ball," he said.

"It's a tough stadium, one of the toughest in the competition.

"We were able to equalise the intensity of the game and had good chances.

"We keep on fighting and keep on going.

"(Millwall) were were consistent, they fought and created chances on set pieces.

"Just look at their points – 27 points (in total) and 21 is at home.

"It's a tough environment to play, we showed a lot of character and must be proud of ourselves.

"We showed we are ready for every type of game and situation.

"We reacted well from their goal. The second half we played good football – their (equalising) goal was a corner, we have to look at that and improve on that. It was a moment of distraction.

"I want to thank the fans – it was fantastic support and on Saturday we will need them again."

Wolves travel to Bristol City on Saturday and may be sweating on the fitness of Ivan Cavaleiro and Willy Boly who both went off injured, although Nuno said: "Let's take a look at them, I think it's nothing serious."

This was Wolves' second game of four in 11 days and Nuno, experiencing his first Christmas in English football, said they were coping well.

"I enjoyed the game," he added. "We are professionals and ready to play every day.

"It's a special moment for our families and our fans. We would like to give them a victory but we fight until the last minute.

Helder Costa started for the first time since October and provided two assists.

But Nuno said of the winger: "He did a good job and he should do better."
