Nuno on QPR defeat: "It's our own fault"

Nuno Espirito Santo said Wolves only had themselves to blame after falling to a third defeat of the season at QPR.

Substitute Matt Smith headed the winner nine minutes from time as Wolves remained second in the Championship following Sheffield United's win over Leeds on Friday night.

Wolves produced a subdued performance although had chances to win it, after Leo Bonatini's equaliser had cancelled out Conor Washington's opener just before half time.

Nuno said: "The first half was not so good in terms of possession of the ball, too many fouls.

"In the second half we had the game (going) through us so we should blame ourselves for not getting three points today.

"It wasn't only our missed chances but the mistakes we made that put QPR in the game.

"We have to look at both ends of the pitch.

"QPR is a different team, we knew how they were and were able to control that situation and put our idea into the game.

"But every game is a different challenge and circumstances that we have to take care of.

"Today we were not the team that we should be – a team that wants to come and play 90 minutes high intensity, fight for every moment. That's the only way to win."

There were defensive lapses for both goals with Romain Saiss tackled ahead of the opener and Roderick Miranda beaten in the air by Smith for the winner.

Nuno added: "We conceded things we normally wouldn't do – we normally aren't so vulnerable in defensive situations.

"We have to take a good look at that.

"What was missing was being effective. We had good moments of building and creating chances and should be effective.

"Each team had its own idea. QPR fight and work for it – we should try and do the same.

"When you believe two different things it comes to hard work. In those moments we had to be truly brave to conquer what we want."

Nuno also thought his team should have had a penalty when Ivan Cavaleiro appeared to be pushed over in the box shortly after half time.

"From where I am it was clear," he added. "But besides that the game was far beyond this moment.

"In the second half we did play better and created enough chances to go away with a different result.

"We should win but it's not the point."
