Matt Doherty: Wolves boss Nuno has our respect

Nuno Espirito Santo has easily won the respect of the Wolves players due to his methods being so successful, Matt Doherty believes.

The Portuguese boss has guided Wolves to the top of the Championship after Saturday's 2-0 win over West Midlands rivals Villa.

Nuno is known to be big on details at Compton Park with a large backroom team leaving no stone unturned in terms of tactics and conditioning.

Doherty, an ever present in the league, is a fan of the head coach's ideas.

"Everybody has a lot of respect for what he's bringing to the table and the things he's trying to get us to do," Doherty said.

"And when he does try to get us to do stuff it works more often than not.

"When he's trying to implement his ideas we know there's a good chance it'll benefit the team."

The 25-year-old has quickly earned Nuno's favour, meaning he 's been a regular under Wolves' past four head coaches dating back to Kenny Jackett.

That's something he's proud of – as well as his new four-year contract which the Irishman signed last month.

"The managers have changed a lot but I'm one of a few to keep playing," Doherty said. "I'm quite proud of that.

"Everybody likes to make sure their own affairs are in order contract-wise.

"It was a good process and obviously I'm delighted to sign again for Wolves.

"I am really enjoying it. It's exciting to be in a team that's playing well in a formation I enjoy and obviously challenging to go up.

"I love playing wing back, it gives me a licence to get up the pitch more than you would if it was a solid four.

"It's made me fitter, I'm really enjoying it at the moment.

"It's not easy, after every game I'm tired, but I recover quite well and everything it set up for us to recover as quickly as possible."

Wolves have announced a free opening training session will be held at Molineux on Thursday October 26.

Gates open at 10am for a 10.30am start and fans can claim up to three free tickets (a maximum of two adults per child) online at www.wolvestickets.co.uk with limited spaces available.
