Mistakes, I made a few, admits former Wolves owner Steve Morgan

Steve Morgan has admitted he made 'huge mistakes' with managerial appointments during his time at Wolves.

And the former owner has labelled Roger Johnson and Jamie O'Hara as 'complete disaster big money signings'.

Morgan appointed four managers in his nine-year tenure as Molineux owner – Terry Connor, Stale Solbakken, Dean Saunders and Kenny Jackett.

When he bought the club from Sir Jack Hayward in 2007, Mick McCarthy was in charge and would remain so until Morgan fired him in 2012 with Wolves in the Premier League relegation zone.

Morgan said yesterday: "Did we make mistakes? Yes we did. A couple of managers we took on were mistakes – huge mistakes.

"In Mick McCarthy's time, on the whole his tenure was successful, but the last couple of seasons were not.

"Mick, who I am still very friendly with, made mistakes like buying Roger Johnson and Jamie O'Hara who were complete disaster big money signings for us at a time when we spent poorly.

"We took on two managers who we never should have taken on with hindsight.

"On the whole was it a bad period of time; I would largely say it was not."

Morgan clashed with supporters while he was Wolves owner, particularly when the team was sliding from the Premier League to League One in consecutive seasons.

And then, 48 hours before he announced he was selling the club, Morgan was involved in a verbal spat with fans after a game at Preston.

"I did enjoy some of the fans, but there was an element it was not great fun to be with," he added.

"As for as the club itself, one of the most exciting days of my life was when I bought Wolves and it was only eclipsed by the day I sold it.

"I met some wonderful people on the way including two of my favourite people in Sir Jack and Rachael (Heyhoe Flint).

"It was a great journey and I enjoyed it a great deal. I have no regrets and it was very exciting.

"When I look at Wolves this season – second in the league – they could well be on a new journey.

"No one wants the Wolves to do well more than me. I really hope they can go back in to the Premier League and stay up this time."
