Diogo Jota: Important Wolves stay in the moment

The 20-year-old scored his first goal for the club in Tuesday’s 3-2 victory at Hull City.

That win perfectly set up tomorrow’s big game at Molineux as second hosts first with Wolves facing Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City.

Jota is enjoying his start to life in English football – and hopes to keep the 100 per cent record going tomorrow.

“It’s a good start, we’re playing well and making good performances,” he said. “We are happy and we’ll try to keep it going.

“We are playing game to game, trying to win each match we play. We’ll keep it that way.

“It’s always important to have a good team but when we have fans alongside with us it’s always good.”

Jota is on loan from Atletico Madrid for the season.

He already knows Nuno Espirito Santo well, with the pair both at Porto in 2016/17.

The same can be said of Willy Boly and Ruben Neves, and Jota said having a few familiar faces around Compton Park was helping him settle at the club.

“It’s easy for us to understand each other,” he added.

“It’s good. We in Portugal like to play in England, it’s good to be here and getting results.”

It’s been a full-throttle start to the season with four games in a week and a half – and another three to come in the next eight days.

Jota said it would take some getting used to the amount of games playing in the Championship.

“All the games are tough,” he said. “If we win we’re happy.

“There’s a lot of games, not much time to rest. We are getting used to it but the important thing is to play well and get victories.”

Goals from Jota, Neves and Nouha Dicko gave Wolves a 3-2 win at the KCOM in midweek.

The attacking midfielder was delighted to get on the scoresheet after hitting the post at Derby last Saturday. He felt Wolves were good value for the win.

“I had opportunities against Derby, this game luckily I could score and help the team to win,” Jota said.

“We played good football, mainly in the first half.

“In the second half Hull took more control of the game with more possession, so we suffer a little bit. But the win is the most important.

“Bright’s run (to set up his goal) was good, good team play.

“When Nouha scored we thought the game was over but the referee showed nine minutes.

“That gave Hull an opportunity to keep fighting because it’s a lot of time.”

Neves opened the scoring with a 30-yard wonder-goal.

Having spent last season with the 20-year-old midfielder, Jota wasn’t surprised – and backed him to repeat the feat.

“Ruben scored an amazing goal. I know he can do that and I think he’ll do it a couple of more times.”
