Blades boss Chris Wilder confirmed on Wednesday night an offer had been placed for the 24-year-old, who captained Wolves in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Middlesbrough.

However, that has been turned down as Coady – whose contract runs out next summer – is an integral part of Wolves' squad and is understood to be happy at Molineux.

Asked about his rumoured interest in Coady, following Sheffield United’s 3-2 Carabao Cup win over Walsall on Wednesday night, Wilder said: “We have placed a bid.”

When then asked whether the offer had been successful, he replied: “That will be kept between the two clubs. I am not going to talk about the player we have placed a bid for.

“We like to think we are an ambitious football club.”

Coady has made 85 appearances for Wolves since joining from Huddersfield in the summer of 2015.

The Liverpool youth product can play in both midfield and defence and has featured at centre-back for Wolves under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
